Ueno Park

Ueno Park is a park in Ueno with an area of approximately 530,000 square meters. Originally belonged to the Japanese royal family and was given to Tokyo by Taisho emperor in 1924, the park is name Ueno, which means gift. Ueno Park is home to Tokyo National Museum, National Museum of Western Art, National Museum of Nature and Science, Ueno Zoo. Opened for more than 140 years, it is one of the most iconic attractions in Tokyo. The highland called Ninjaoka is a famous cherry blossom viewing spot, selected as one of the top 100 cherry blossom viewing spots attracting a large number of visitors every spring. In winter, a variety of birds reside in the park.

What to See in Ueno Park
Tokyo National Museum: Tokyo National Museum is the oldest museum in Japan, with a total collection of about 117,000 items (89 national treasures and 644 important cultural assets).  In terms of both quality and quantity of the cultural relics, the museum is second to none in the country (as of the end of March 2019). The cultural exhibition (permanent exhibition) always displays around 3,000 items.
Opening time: 9: 30 to 17: 00; closed every Friday and Saturday at 21:00. The museum is closed on Mondays (open on every legal holiday and closed the following day).

National Museum of Nature and Science: is the largest science museum in the country with more than 25,000 exhibits, where you can explore the universe, dinosaurs, ecosystem, and innovative technology. The 360-degree cinema serves as one of the highlights of the museum.  There are also areas where you can experience various physical phenomena, indoor exhibition halls for children, gift shops selling dinosaurs and other science-related goods.
Opening time: Weekday from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM; Fridays, Saturdays from 9:00 AM to 8:00 PM (Visitors are admitted until 30 minutes before closing time.) Closed on every Monday (If Monday is a national holiday, the Museum is open Monday and closed the following Tuesday.) Year-end/New Year holiday (December 28 to January 1) Ueno District will be closed for fumigation from June 23th-26th 2020.

National Museum of Western Art: Established in April 1959 and designed by the famous architect Le Corbusier, the museum houses 6,000 sculptures and paintings from the late Middle Ages to the early 20th century. This is the only national art gallery that exhibits only Western art, displaying works by Monet, Renoir, Cezanne, Rubens, Van Gogh, and many other famous artists.
Opening time: 9: 30-17: 30. Both the permanent exhibition and special exhibition are open until 8pm on Friday. The permanent exhibition will be held until 8pm on Saturday, but the special exhibition time may vary. The museum is closed on Mondays and New Year's holidays (December 28th-January 1st of the following year). If Mondays is a national holiday, the museum will be open and closed the Tuesday.

Ueno Zoo: Founded in 1882, Ueno Zoo is the oldest zoo in Tokyo. It has attracted much attention in Japan for its successful breeding of pandas. In addition to pandas, you can also see a variety of animals such as Sumatran tigers, Asian lions, lowland gorillas, and polar bears. To breed endangered animals, the zoo has also set up the "Gorilla Forest" and "Tiger Forest".
Opening hours: 9:30 am to 17:00 pm (Ticketing time is until 16:00 pm.) Monday is closed (If Monday is a public holiday, Tuesday will be closed.)
Entrance fee: Adults (16-64 years old) 600 yen, seniors (65 years old +) 300 yen, teenagers (13-15 years old) 200 yen, children (0-12 years old) free of charge. Admission is free for the Ueno Zoo Establishment Day (March 20) / Arbor Day (May 4) / Tokyo Citizen's Day (October 1).
