What to See in Nikko
Nikko Tosho-gu: is a world heritage, and the most famous temple in Nikko. Reconstructed in the 17th century, the temple is dedicated to worshiping Tokugawa Leyasu. A total of 55 structures, 8 of which are national treasure and 34 are cultural heritage. Visitors can find a lot of painting and sculptures in the temple.

Sennjougahara: Nikko national park is an important wetland protected by the government. There are many trails, so it is a great place for hikers. In the total area of 400 hectares, there are over 350 types of wild plants in addition to different wildlife. Sennjougahara is especially popular during the maple season in October and water plantain season in early June.

Ryuzuno-taki Falls: is one of the three most famous waterfalls in Nikko. The water is divided into two falling at a height of 210 meter. It is also famous for three-leaf rhododendrons from May to June, and maple leaves from late September to early October.

Nikkoyumoto onsen: Nikkoyumoto onsen is one of the few hot springs protected by the Japanese government in the Kanto area. With a long history and quality sulfur hot spring, Nikkoyumoto onsen has plenty of spring water flowing out of the ground. It is a great site to view maple leaves in fall and skiing in winter.



How to Get to Nikko from Tokyo 
You can take the JR East Japan Shinkansen (Tohoku Shinkansen) at JR Tokyo station or Ueno station to JR Utsunomiya station. And then transfer to JR Nikko Line to JR Nikko Station. There are 5 trains from Utsunomiya station to Nikko Station every day. You can use JR pass but advance reservation is required. Because some Tohoku Shinkansen does not stop at Utsunomiya station, it is always a good idea to double check or confirm with a staff before boarding.
